PICTURE BOOK WORKSHOP

I teach a creative writing/workshop to middle schoolers and college students on how to plan, write and create a picture book. Students learn about visual storytelling, pacing, characterization, point of view and the relationship between words and images. Their final class project is a picture book dummy. I currently teach this class at the School of Visual Arts in NYC.

TALKS ON PICTURE BOOKS

I love spreading the word about the creative process, my journey as an artist/writer and the possibilities of the picture book art form. I’ve been lucky to speak at the SCBWI Winter Conference in New York, the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art and being part of artists talks and guided visits at The New York Society of Illustrators, among many others around the world.

SCHOOL VISITS

I believe children are fantastic readers and their curiosity and creativity is infinite. I enjoy reading them stories, answering their questions and inviting them to create their own interpretations. My school visits can include large-group playful and engaging presentations or small-group writing and drawing workshops.
