WORKSHOPS AND TALKS BY CLAUDIA RUEDA

PICTURE BOOK WORKSHOP

I teach an intensive 3-hour workshop to middle schoolers and college students on how to plan, write and create an 8-page picture book dummy. Students learn about visual narrative and storytelling, point of view, characterization and the relationship between words and images.

Claudia brings so much passion and encouragement to the class. She made me rethink the infinite possibilities words and images can create.” Student Siyang Lim

TALKS ON PICTURE BOOKS

I love spreading the word on the possibilities of the picture book art form and having conversations with other authors. I’ve been lucky to speak at the SCBWI Winter Conference in New York, the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art and being part of artists talks and guided visits at The New York Society of Illustrators, among many others around the world.

SCHOOL VISITS

I believe children are fantastic readers and their curiosity and creativity is infinite. I enjoy reading them stories, answering their questions and inviting them to create their own interpretations. My school visits can include large-group playful and engaging presentations or small-group writing and drawing workshops. After sharing my books with the class I focus on the creative and illustration process.
