WORKSHOPS AND TALKS ABOUT PICTURE BOOKS

My amazing class of Fall 2024

PICTURE BOOK: CRAFTING STORIES WITH WORDS AND PICTURES

I teach an eight-week class on how to plan, write and draw a storyboard and to create a picture dummy ready for submission. Students learn about visual narrative and storytelling, point of view, characterization and the relationship between words and images.

Claudia brings so much passion and encouragement to the class. Her class made me rethink the infinite possibilities words and images can create.” Student Siyang Lim

TALKS ON PICTURE BOOKS

I love spreading the word on the possibilities of the picture book art form and to have conversations with other picture book authors. I’ve been lucky to speak at the SCBWI Winter Conference in New York, teach a workshop at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art and being part of artists talks and guided visits at The New York Society of Illustrators, among many others around the world.

THE MOCK TURTLE PICTURE BOOK CLUB

I created a picture book club to explore avant-garde and contemporary picture books that experiment with the art form. We talk about challenging subjects, new visual vocabularies and forms of storytelling, contemporary representations of childhood and crossing traditional picture books borders. We meet in the Spring and the Fall on the first Monday of the month at Sullaluna Bookshop in New York.
